Care to Bare: 12 of the world’s best nude beaches

It isn’t deniable that we all want to forgo the swimsuit, the unwanted tan lines and let the sun shine on our naked bodies. Nude beaches or ‘Naturist beaches’ are well known around the world and here’s the best of all, from all around the world.


1- Wreck beach, Vancouver, Canada


An internationally acclaimed 7.8 km long nudist beach, located on the western end of Vancouver, Canada, making it North America's largest naturist beach. Evergreen trees and rocky outcrops accentuates the canadian ambiance of this beach, found just across the street from University of British Columbia.



2- Black’s beach, La Jolla California


Set below the Torrey Pines Gliderport and just north of La Jolla Shores, Black’s beach is San Diego’s favourite nude beach. It’s a long beach that stretches from Torrey Pines State Beach below the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course at the north end to Scripps Beach at the UCSD Oceanography Campus at the south end.



3-Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico


The largest of the three beach towns that decorate the coast west of Puerto Ángel, Zipolite is known for its surfing, clothing-optional beach and unashamed ‘do nothing’ vibe. Plenty of expats have discovered its tranquil charms and opened small businesses, but the place still retains a touch of erstwhile bohemian magic.




4-Praia Massarandupió, Bahia, Brazil


A two-hour drive north of Salvador, the nude beach is about a one-kilometer walk from the parking lot along the shoreline flanked by coconut palms, rolling dunes and very surfable waves. It is located about 40km north of Praia do Forte and 20km from Costa do Sauipe.



5-Platja des Cavallet, Ibiza, Spain


The spacious natural beach of Es Cavallet in the south of Ibiza is above all popular with nudists, but also with the gay community. If you are looking for some peace and quiet, it is a good alternative to the busier nearby beach of Ses Salines. It takes about a quarter of an hour by car from Ibiza town, travelling past large salt fields and through a nature reserve until you reach a large car park near the beach.



6-Cap d'Agde beach, France


Also known as the ‘naked town,’ Cap d'Agde Naturist Village is the world's largest clothing-optional beach resort. It is located in the commune of Agde, in the Hérault department within the region of Occitanie. Non residents can stay overnight at the naturist hotel, camp ground or rental units.



7-Red Beach, Crete, Greece


Matala’s main beach below the caves is a lovely crescent but often gets uncomfortably crammed. This red sand beach and its blue-green water holds a place in some of the clearest water in the world. It's accessible by a 30-minute hike  over a small mountain.



8-Mpenjati Beach, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa


A 250 metre stretch of beach that falls under the Mpenjati Nature Reserve at Trafalgar on the south coast, It is roughly 140 kms south of Durban on the Hibiscus Coast. This is KwaZulu-Natal's first nudist beach and the only official nudist beach in the entire country.



9-Cleat's Shore, Isle of Arran, UK


Located near Lagg on the south west tip of the spectacular Isle of Arran; the largest of the islands in the Firth of Clyde in the west of Scotland, Cleat’s Shore is described as as ‘probably the least visited nudist beach anywhere in the known universe in the book, ‘Bare Britain.’



10-Budleigh Salterton, Devon, UK


Head to the quaint seaside retreat of Budleigh Salterton this summer – and climb down steamer steps to this shingle beach. The main beach is a crescent of pebbles, steeply shelving towards the sea and overlooked by high red cliffs at the western edge and is renowned for its round, muffin-shaped pebbles.




11-Leela Beach, Koh Phangan, Thailand


All the way on the southern tip of Koh Phangan island and just a stone throw away from the busy Haad Rin beach, you will find the quiet Leela beach. With no real public entrance, it certainly gives a feeling of perfect solitude while witnessing calming sunsets.



12-Red River’s Middle bank, Hanoi, Vietnam


Located at the foot of the Long Bien Bridge, this beach has two zones. The alluvial ground amid the Red River becomes all more special as unlike all other sites, it is the only open-air naturist beach.
